Bathroom renovations are one of the most common upgrades our clients complete. They are one area that tends to be an ‘all or nothing’ project. Occasionally a change of tapware and handles is all that is needed – a fun project with almost instant gratification and sense of achievement. However, if your bathroom has seen better days then sit back with a ‘cuppa’ and read on to find out what’s in store when it comes to a full bathroom renovation!
Where to Start
We consider there to be a few levels of renovation you can embark on:
- Cosmetic
- Basic
- The Dream
Cosmetic Renovation
This is the simplest bathroom renovation you can do. It does not involve moving any plumbing or changing any of your tiles or flooring. It is simply limited to replacing items such as vanity mirrors, tapware, shower fittings, shower screen, toilet, bath, lighting and a coat of paint. The cost of a cosmetic bathroom renovation will cost somewhere between $5,000 – $15,000.
Basic Renovation
This is a fairly extensive renovation of your bathroom but still keeping to a budget. Small changes to plumbing locations, new tiles, new fixtures and fittings and a coat of paint. You may be able to move some of your plumbing locations, but you won’t get a new layout in a basic renovation. E.g. You could move your shower head location within your shower, but you couldn’t move your entire shower to another location in your bathroom within this budget. You would need to keep your existing shower base/tray and shower recess. You won’t be able to tile floor-to-ceiling, but you will be able to tile your splashback above your vanity.
The cost of a basic bathroom renovation will cost somewhere between $15,000 – $30,000.
The Dream Renovation
A dream renovation would be stripping your existing bathroom back to studs and starting again to get you your perfect room. You can change the entire layout – move plumbing, create a walk-in tiled shower base and tile floor-to-ceiling. Add a tiled shower niche, all new vanities, mirrors, tapware, backlit mirrors, new wiring, plumbing and windows.
The cost of a dream renovation is $30,000 – $60,000 depending on the size of your bathroom, quality of fixtures and how much you change the layout.
